Managing Stress and Anxiety

Feelings of stress and anxiety can often be overwhelming. This course explores the internal and external factors involved in the development of stress.

Stress seems to be an essential part of 21st century life, yet we rarely acknowledge the presence of stress in the lives of children and young people.

Many young people lack the depth and breadth of life experiences to call on for internal support, and further lack the kinds of coping strategies many adults take for granted.

This training day will explore the role and impact of stress and anxiety for both staff and children, and promotes positive strategies for the management and reduction of overwhelming feelings. The day will also offer a framework for understanding factors affecting stress and anxiety to help formulate helpful responses.

By the end of the day, participants will:
  • Understand the physiological and psychological impact of stress and anxiety
  • Have examined the internal and external factors involved in the development of stress
  • Have developed approaches and strategies for supporting others and promoting self-regulation
