Understanding and Responding to Suicidal Behaviour
This course will provide you with a model for assessing risk and supporting people who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts or feelings.
The UK averages 18 deaths from suicide everyday.
Working with people who are at risk or expressing suicidal thoughts and feelings can be distressing and leave us unsure of what to do or how to respond. This course will explore the terminology associated with self-harm and suicide, provide participants with a working model for understanding risks and promoting resilience and; consider the importance of supervision and self care.
By the end of the day, participants will:
- have considered the language associated with suicidal behaviour
- have explored risk and resilience factors commonly connected with suicidality
- have developed skills in risk assessment and likelihood of completing suicide
- understand the boundaries of confidentiality and the importance of recording
- have considered the importance of supervision and self care
